The JC Raulston Arboretum is a botanical garden and arboretum maintained by North Carolina State University on 10 acres (40,000 square meters) near Raleigh, North Carolina. It’s always open and free to the public.The Arboretum was renamed after the late Dr. James Chester Raulston, a pioneer in the field of horticulture. The Arboretum was established in 1976 by Dr. Raulston.Many other exciting activities are also available. Annual Color Trials is recognized as an official All-America Selections (AAS) testing facility, where over 700 annuals and tender perennials are evaluated each year.The entry garden is home to over a hundred distinct species of delicate perennials, most of which are native to tropical regions. There are about 200 distinct kinds of roses on display in the Finley-Nottingham Rose Garden. These include hybrid teas, hybrid musk roses, David Austin roses, and climbing roses.The Japanese Garden has a raked-stone Zen garden in addition to its assortment of Acer palmatum ‘Kiyohime’ and ‘Seiryu,’ Chamaecyparis obtusa ‘Nana Gracilis,’ Lagerstroemia fauriei, Nandina domestica f. capillaris varieties, and Pinus taeda ‘Nana.Klein-Pringle Plants including Acer palmatum, Lagerstroemia ‘Natchez,’ Magnolia loebneri ‘Merrill,’ Styrax japonicus ‘Emerald Pagoda,’ and Viburnum ‘Mohawk’ may be found in the White Garden, which was modeled after the White Garden at Sissinghurst Castle Garden.Lath House is home to over 700 different types of shade-loving plants. Acanthus spinosus, Cornus controversa ‘Variegata,’ Farfugium japonicum ‘Aureomaculatum,’ Gentiana saponaria, Hydrangea macrophylla ‘Pia,’ Pieris japonica ‘Shojo,’ and Trochodendron aralioides are some of them.Trees, shrubs, groundcovers, perennials, and bulbs such as Campsis grandiflora ‘Morning Calm,’ Chamaecyparis thyoides ‘Rubicon,’ Clematis ‘Betty Corning,’ Cornus sericea ‘Silver and Gold,’ and Hamamelis intermedia ‘Jelena’ make up the wide border planting in the Mixed Border.Backyard exhibits open to the public are known as “model gardens.” Plants such as Aloysia triphylla, Corylus avellana ‘Contorta,’ Hosta ‘Sum and Substance,’ and Ziziphus jujuba ‘Inermis’ may be found in the Paradise Garden, which was created with the intention of stimulating all five senses.The Perennial Border, measuring 450 by 18 feet (140 by 5.5 meters), is lined with nearly a thousand perennial plants in a color scheme based on a design by Gertrude Jekyll.The Southall Memorial Garden is a green space where people can relax and enjoy nature in the company of others. Xeric Garden is home to a wide variety of cacti and succulents from all over the world, including but not limited to agaves, dasylirion, echinocarpus, hesperaloe, nolina, opuntia, and yucca.Plants that bloom in the winter can be found at the Winter Garden. Some of them are Cryptomeria, Chamaecyparis, Cornus officinalis ‘Kintoki,’ Edgeworthia chrysantha, Epimedium, Hamamelis, Helleborus hybridus, Ilex, Iris unguicularis, Prunus mume ‘Rose Glow,’ and Yucca
